Arriving in Nairobi!

Jambo! I managed to get here all by myself!! :) Well.. With a little help from some nice people on the way. I sat next to this woman on the plane who works in Kenya but she is from London! She was really helpful and told me everything I needed to know!
The Kenyan people on the plane were lovely and really funny! The guy opposite me helped me coz my TV wasn’t working properly, which he thought was hilarious! I had my own TV! :o and a wee remote control thing that was also a phone to call anywhere in the world and a games console remote!!! How cool is that!!! I was amazed!! Could hardly see Kenya from the air coz the woman next to me had to window seat and she was sleeping :( Oh well I’m getting to see it all now!!! :D

Loving it so far! I got picked up by a really nice girl Called Louisa. Then I found out she is from Clarkston!!!! Small world!! She’s the person who looks after all the volunteers and only lives two flats away. From my room I can just see the complex, but on the other side I can see wee circle tin houses and that’s where the police stay apparently!

The company I’m with has 3 projects in Kenya, and apparently I’m going to get to see them all! I’m going to Sulu or something on wed next week, and on Monday I am going to Mashimoni School :) Can’t wait! Louisa said all the volunteers have been travelling at the weekends but there’s one who only came on Monday and she wanted to go to Mombasa beach! So I’m going to go too! Probably not this weekend though coz it’s a tad soon... Think that’s all my fans kept up to date! That was so long! Got so much to say!
Oh and the driving here is crazy! Not one person indicated on the way here from the airport! They just move and the other cars have to move out their way! There are clearly no rules of the road, not even for pedestrians it basically just walk and hope for the best!!!   It’s really warm!!! But there’s a nice wee breeze!! :) There’s no air con here anywhere! Not even in the airport :( It was roasting waiting to get let into the country! :P

There are hundreds of kids here!! The Kenya Children’s Home holds 250 abandoned children and the Jonathan Gloag Academy is the school they go to with 500 other kids! The school was named after Anne’s Son. There are tonnes of people that work here! I met them all today, but most likely going to forget all of their names by tomorrow! The kids are SO bright they can all speak fluently in English and Kiswahili. All of their lessons are in English 4 days of the week and Fridays are Kenyan speaking days! Met the other volunteers today and they are lovely.
I had a meeting with the head teacher today because she wanted to meet me and say welcome and ask about me, it felt like she was sussing me out before I went near her kids! All the staff are so friendly and have been saying Karibu which means welcome and I have learnt “Asantai” which is thanks!
