Elephants

Elephants

Today I had a day off so I went with one of the girls to the elephant orphanage! :) It was really good! They take in orphaned elephants and help them grow and then take them back in to the wild! We got to pet the elephants as they were being fed, SMA Gold baby Milk! Imported from England! How weird! This was so much fun as they were all so cute and tiny wee elephants! They loved playing and going into the water and getting all muddy! One spat some mud at me which was fantastic!

After the Elephants we went to the safari walk, this was amazing, it is like a board walk that raises you up above the national park to allow you to see most of the animals, we saw most of the big 5, saw a lion, hippo, rhino, buffalo, leopard, cheetah, monkeys, baboons, Hyena and loads more!
We got to see a lion climb a tree, as well as a leopard that was sitting right in the top of the trees! :) Also we got to see an albino zebra!! haha it's like a black Zebra! :P instead of being white and black it looks slightly like a giraffe, but I always get them mixed up! :P After the animal watching we decided to get to a hotel and hit the pool/bar!! =D Such a good day! =]

School Times!

This week I have been going to every class in the primary school :) They all start at 7am:| Not a fan of the early mornings!! The kids have such a long day; they are in 7am-4pm! And usually at 4 they go to homework club to do their homework until 5-5.30pm!! :o It's crazy! But they seem to love it! ha-ha they can’t get enough of school!! The kids start school at 3 years old here! And I’m amazed at what they can do so young! They all come speaking different languages coz their mother tongue is usually their tribe language! So they start getting taught in English at 3 so they have a common language.

I feel so respected here!! By both the kids and the teachers! They appreciate me being there so much its lovely!! I am known as "teacher Catherine". When I walk into a classroom the kids all say simultaneously "good morning teacher Catherine." Then I say “Good morning, how are you?” and they say "We are fine thank you and how are you?" It is the cutest thing!!!! :P Don't think many kids get much of an opinion here though, they all seem to be equal as in they are the students there to learn what the teacher tells them. What she says goes.

During my week there were 3 children that got called to leave class in the middle of a lesson coz they hadn’t paid their school fees :(

One of the classes had computing, and they were 6 years old, I don't know how good kids are at home, but they were all left to create their own menu in a table format, with no help whatsoever! I was amazed they could even find the right programme! :P
I went swimming today at a water park and then 2moro me and my friend are taking 2 older girls from the orphanage ice skating :D:D:D

Sports Day!

Sports Day
Today was sports day at the orphanage!! :D It was an amazing day!! All the kids had a great time and we were all given a team, I was in team one. There were adults’ races and kids’ races; I decided to volunteer for the 4x400m relay, NO idea why!? ha-ha I think I came 3rd out of 4 ha-ha but that not bad considering the Kenyans are unbelievably fast, especially the maasi people here, they were all built like runners! :)
Yesterday we went to the animal orphanage which was good :) we saw lots of different animals like cheetahs, lions, Giraffes, Ostriches, Buffalo and leopards which are actually the most amazing animals! SO beautiful! :)
